Auto Accidents

We handle all types of auto accidents, and we have many years of experience with hundreds of auto accident cases.  The most common type of accident that our clients are involved in is rear-ended accident.  Drivers in Hawaii are more distracted than ever.  They just can’t seem to put their phones down while they’re driving.  This leads to many rear-end accidents.  Rear-end accidents are very straightforward accidents.  It’s usually quite easy to prove liability in a rear-end accident.

Another common type of accident is those that take place when someone is turning left at an intersection.  Too often, the driver turning left does not yield to the oncoming traffic, and the other vehicle hits the left-turning vehicle on the side.  Although the driver who is turning left may try to argue that the other driver was speeding, these cases are also usually pretty easy to prove because it’s often clear that the driver who was turning did not yield the right of way to the other driver.

Moped Accidents

We have handled many moped accident cases over the years.  We have done extensive research into the moped laws of Hawaii.  Sadly, moped accidents too often involve very serious injuries.  Too many drivers are not watching out for mopeds.  Unfortunately, too many moped riders don’t wear helmets which can lead to serious head injuries.

Motorcycle Accidents

Similar to moped accidents, motorcycle accidents also often result in very serious injuries.  Thankfully, motorcycle riders are usually wearing helmets which prevent serious brain injuries.  Drivers also need to do a much better job of watching out for motorcycles.

Bicycle Accidents

​

We’ve helped many people over the years who have been injured in bicycle accidents.  Tragically, bike accidents often involve very serious injuries.  We’ve been very successful at getting our clients fair compensation for their bicycle accident injuries.

Pedestrian Injuries

Hawaii is one of the worst states in the country when it comes to pedestrian safety.  This has been another record year for the number of pedestrian fatalities.  We are experienced pedestrian injury lawyers, and we’ve gotten excellent settlements for many of our pedestrian injury clients.

Here are some of the types of cases we don’t handle:

Workers Compensation

We get a lot of calls from people who are injured at work and need a lawyer.  Under the laws of Hawaii, if you’re injured at work, you need to file a worker’s compensation claim.  This even includes people who are injured in a car accident at work.  If you were working at the time of the accident, we can’t take your case.  You will want to do an internet search for a worker’s compensation lawyer.  This is even the case where the other driver was at fault, and you want to pursue a claim against the other driver.  We don’t accept these types of cases because you need to understand the worker’s compensation laws that would apply in such a situation.

Medical Malpractice

​

Our law firm does not accept medical malpractice cases.  These are extremely complicated types of cases, and you will want to hire a law firm that focuses on medical malpractice law.  These cases will often end up in court because doctors do not want to accept liability for their mistakes.  You need to find a lawyer who specializes in these types of cases and who is prepared for the long fight in court.

Yes, we understand that it can be very difficult to find a lawyer for a medical malpractice case.  This is because these types of cases require years of hard work and tens of thousands of dollars in investment in expert witnesses.  It can be frustrating to try to find a lawyer.  Our advice is to call at least five lawyers when you’re trying to get a lawyer to take your case.  Lawyers are very busy, and sometimes they quite simply don’t have time to take more cases, no matter how big the case might be.  If you call ten lawyers and none of them are interested in taking your case, then it’s possible that you don’t have a case worth pursuing.

Assaults

We get a lot of calls from people who have been assaulted in Hawaii.  Assaults often happen late at night, and they usually happen in or around bars.  We get a lot of calls from people who have been assaulted by security guards at bars or nightclubs.  Many calls we get are from tourists who are assaulted while on vacation.

Assault cases can be very difficult cases to pursue.  Almost always, it will be a case of “he said, she said.”  Often both the people in an assault case are at least partially at fault.  Rarely are people just walking down the street, minding their own business, and someone comes up and assaults them.

We haven’t handled any assault cases, so we don’t have any experience with these types of cases.  You will want to call a lawyer who specializes in assault cases and has extensive experience with these types of cases.

Dog Bites

​

Although we have handled a few dog bite cases over the years, we rarely accident dog bite cases anymore.  Dog bites cases are similar to assault cases in that it’s usually a “he said, she said” situation.  We often hear defenses such as: “he teased my dog…he trespassed…it’s not my dog…I don’t have insurance for dog bites….”

Because we have handled very few dog bite cases over the years, you will want to look for another lawyer who has experience with dog bite cases.

As a personal injury law firm, we only handle personal injury cases.  We won’t handle any other types of cases.  If you are looking for an attorney who practices another type of case, you should do an internet search for the specific type of lawyer that you need.  As indicated above, all areas of law are getting more and more complicated.  You should only hire a lawyer who has experience with the specific area of law that you need help with.  You want to have peace of mind knowing that you’re getting good legal advice that will actually help you with your problem and not complicate it.
